New data from Stats NZ highlights the growing importance of the United States as a market for New Zealand’s services exports.
In the year to March 2026, the US was once again New Zealand’s largest services export market, worth NZ$8.37 billion, an increase of NZ$500 million on the previous year. Services exports to the US were higher than those to Australia (NZ$8.08b) and more than 2.5 times the value of exports to China (NZ$3.33b).
Travel services were NZ’s largest services export to the US, worth NZ$2.13b, reflecting the value of the people-to-people connections that underpin the broader bilateral relationship.
As the two nations continue to deepen commercial, tourism, investment and innovation links, these figures demonstrate the tangible economic benefits of a strong partnership.
The Council looks forward to exploring the success of NZ’s services exports to the States through the 2026 NZUS Council Media Fellowship. More information on that opportunity will be shared soon.
