The United States remains an important part of New Zealand’s international visitor market, with the latest Stats NZ figures showing the US was New Zealand’s second-largest source of overseas visitors in the year ended June 2026.
There were 385,500 visitor arrivals from the United States during the year, behind Australia with 1.59 million arrivals. China was third with 315,400, followed by the United Kingdom with 196,500.
Overall, New Zealand welcomed 3.67m overseas visitor arrivals in the June 2026 year, an increase of 9 percent compared with the previous year.
The figures highlight the strength of the people-to-people connections between New Zealand and the United States. Tourism and travel are an important part of the broader bilateral relationship, supporting connections between our communities, businesses and economies.
With the United States now accounting for more than 385k visitor arrivals to New Zealand each year, the American market remains a significant contributor to New Zealand’s international tourism sector and an important dimension of the wider NZ-US relationship.
