The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) has released its latest Weekly Global Economic Report which highlights a number of developments in relation to New Zealand’s economic relationship with the United States.

The report outlines the implementation of new US Section 301 tariffs, with New Zealand now subject to an additional 12.5% tariff on most exports to the United States from 24 July 2026. It notes that some products, including beef and kiwifruit, remain exempt from the additional tariffs and outlines the New Zealand Government’s continued engagement with the United States on the issue.

These developments underscore the importance of continued engagement on trade policy and regional economic cooperation, both of which remain central to the NZ-US relationship.
