ZURU has filed legal action against the United States Federal Government following the Supreme Court’s ruling that President Donald Trump’s tariffs were unlawful, as reported by Matt Nippert for the New Zealand Herald.

The case, lodged with the United States Court of International Trade, reflects ongoing uncertainty around the tariff refund process, with more than US$200 billion collected over the past year and up to 30,000 claimants potentially affected.

NZUS Council Executive Director Fiona Cooper noted the past year had brought “a year of ups and downs and challenges, but some opportunities too”, adding that the Council “didn’t welcome the imposition of these so-called reciprocal tariffs” and that the Supreme Court decision had been met “with some relief”.

The evolving tariff landscape has created significant disruption for businesses, with “the uncertainty… terrible”, while New Zealand companies have “risen to the challenge”.

The NZUS Council will continue to monitor developments closely, including the implications for New Zealand exporters navigating the US market.
