The New Zealand Government has announced that Chris Seed will be New Zealand’s next Ambassador to the United States, beginning in January 2026.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ambassador Rosemary Banks for her outstanding service in Washington and her long career devoted to strengthening New Zealand’s international relationships, including her invaluable contribution as former NZUS Council Chair.

Chris Seed, one of New Zealand’s most accomplished diplomats, formerly Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 2019-2024, and previously leading High Commissioner in Canberra and Port Moresby, he is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of this role.

We look forward to working with Ambassador Seed to continue building the strong relationship between New Zealand and the United States.
