Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters will travel to the United States this week for a series of high-level meetings with senior members of the Trump Administration and congressional leaders. His visit will focus on key areas of cooperation between New Zealand and the United States, including regional security, trade, and global affairs.

The New Zealand/United States relationship continues to be an important pillar of New Zealand’s international engagement  with strong bilateral economic, political, and security ties. This visit builds on ongoing diplomatic discussions about trade, and provides an opportunity to reinforce New Zealand’s strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

Meetings in Washington D.C. will allow for discussions on shared regional and global challenges, as well as opportunities to further strengthen bilateral ties. With the evolving geopolitical landscape, continued engagement at this level is vital in ensuring that both nations remain well-positioned to navigate emerging issues and deepen collaboration in a range of sectors.
